A Spooky Halloween Costume, or Our Future Reality?

Images of a doll named Emma are surfacing across the internet.  Emma resembles a zombie office worker, but according to a recent report this is what the future office worker may look like in 20 years.  emma-office-worker-zombie

Emma’s physical appearance is an outcome of poor habits in the office.  Her hunched back and red sore eyes are a result of leaning forward and staring at the computer screen.  She has developed varicose veins from sitting down most of the day and her sedentary lifestyle has also contributed to her protruding stomach.

According to the report, 90% of office workers in the UK suffer from health issues and are performing poorly at work.  An astounding 50% reported eye problems and 49% had back pain.

The report is calling for radical changes to our working lives or this scary image will be our future reality.

The changes include:emma-office-worker-zombie-greeting

  • Moving more
  • Posture at desks
  • Regular breaks
  • Improving work station set up

Advanced Ergonomic Concepts offers workstation assessments and a variety of quality solution based ergonomic products to reduce the risks of developing into Emma.

A Women-Owned Ergonomics Company

October is an exciting month for us. Not only is it National Ergonomics Month, but it’s also National Women’s Small Business Month! Laurie started Advanced Ergonomic Concepts in 1996 wanting to balance being a mom with being a working professional. Her mission was to provide quality ergonomic solutions that work and make a positive impact on the customer’s comfort level.

From the early days of a one-woman home office to our current location in Westport, Advanced Ergonomic Concepts has grown to be a successful business.  AEC has become a trusted ergonomic source for major local companies as well as their branches throughout the United States.

Advanced Ergonomic Concepts is WBE certified with the State of Missouri and participates in local Supplier Diversity events and Corporate Programs.  We encourage you to establish or participate in diversity programs and opportunities to buy from women-owned businesses when possible.  According to research conducted by WEConnect International, women-owned businesses earn less than 1 percent of the money spent on vendors by large corporations and governments.

The National Association of Women Business Owners has some interesting statics on women-owned businesses.  For example, women-owned firms account for 39% of all privately held firms and contribute 8% of employment and 4.2% of revenues.  Click here for additional information.

20/20/20 Rule

In addition to the correct lighting, vision related musculoskeletal discomforts can be relieved by regular Ergo Breaks. When taking these breaks, it also is a good idea to stand up and stretch to relieve muscle tension in your neck, back and shoulders. Remember to allow a break for the eyes too. Look up and away often when performing prolonged near vision tasks.

Improve Your Comfort During National Ergonomics Month!

October is designated as National Ergonomic Month (NEM). This designation was established by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) in 2003 to create awareness of human factors and ergonomics.

Each year, HFES hosts a challenge to create a 2-minute video to answer the question, "How does human factors/ergonomics help people?" The contest is part of the Society's vision of extending the reach and relevance of HFES and the human factors/ergonomics discipline.

Take a quick look at this light-hearted video showing how Human Factors impacts us throughout our daily life: "How Human Factors Improves Your Life" from the Third-Place Winner of the 2016 HFES YouTube Video Contest.  Creators: Daniel Diethei, Lisa Herbst, and Paul Schlosser

Improving your comfort is just part of what ergonomics is all about.  Call us to discover new ways that ergonomics can improve your comfort.

Return On Ergonomics - What is the ROI?

“I’m not paying that much for a chair” a prospective customer voiced as he left our showroom recently one afternoon. For any company selling or purchasing quality ergonomic products, we frequently hear customers or managers asking, “Just how much will this cost?”

The real question is can you afford not to invest in ergonomic products and safety for yourself and your employees. We’ve all heard the o...
